Organization fostering animals left homeless by tornado needs donations

SNAP is fostering  some animals that were left homeless after the tornadoes. The organization needs donations to help with vet bills, food and shelter. They are also accepting pet food donations for cats and dogs.

Pet food can be dropped off at the SNAP thrift store at 3312 Bob Wallace Avenue. Call 256-535-6060 for more information. Donations can be mailed to P.O Box 4450 Huntsville, AL 35815. You can also make a donation online.

Two schools win $1,000 in plastic cap recycling contest

Two schools that counted and turned in the most plastic caps from October 2010through March 2011to be recycled will be awarded $1,000 each!

The announcement will be made Tuesday, May 17th at 10:45am at Huntsville Fire& Rescue Station #1.

Mayor Tommy Battle, Allied Wasted representatives and Operation Green team will be there for the announcement.

The cap collection containers are located at all Huntsville Fire stations for plastic cap recycling.

International Space Development Conference career fair

International Space Development Conference career fair

The ISDC career fair will be held Friday, May 20th from 10am to 5pm at the East Hall 2 at the VBC.

The public is invited to attend and is free!

Two correspondents from the NHK General Bureau for America are traveling to the conference to effort a story about the space shuttle retirement, but more importantly on how the space program has affected generations of families. They will also be interviewing other companies that are attending or speaking at the conference.

The career fair is a featured activity of the National Space Society’s International Space Development Conference, however, it is a separate venue from the conference exhibit hall. Huntsville Space Professionals and Next Step in Space have joined to bring this opportunity to Huntsville to help mitigate the aerospace contractors who have lost their jobs.

Huntsville Police continue to investigate an armed robbery.

Huntsville man found in attic, arrested for burglary

A Huntsville man is arrested and charged with burglary.

Huntsville Police responded to a call at Los 16 Hermanos located on 2998 Governors Drive. The caller told police they saw someone breaking in.

When officers arrived, the front door was broken and they found 24-year-old Ernesto Perez-Chavez hiding in the attic. 

He was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary.

Robbery to Individual

Huntsville police worked a robbery on Old Monrovia Road around 10 a.m. Friday morning. Police said the victim was riding in a car with two people he didn't know when they forced him out of the car and robbed him.  The suspects fled and have not been arrested.
