The University of Alabama in Huntsville will celebrate the 41st anniversary of Earth Day with a week full of green contests and activities. Earth Week at UAHuntsville will be observed Monday, April 18 through Friday, April 22.
Earth Day was founded and first celebrated on April 22, 1970, by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-Wisconsin). Observed and celebrated in many countries every year, Earth Day has become an annual national event to learn about ecology and what we can do to reduce environmental harm.
Festivities will begin with an official kick-off at noon, on Monday, April 18 at Charger Village. The opening event will feature speakers from the Huntsville City Operation Green Team and the UAHuntsville energy office. Event organizers will provide a brief overview of the week's scheduled activities. Students will also be encouraged to sign-up for the new green student organization sponsored by the Student Government Association.
