Grab your lab coat and break out the science beakers for Sci-Quest’s fourth annual Mad Scientist Ball on Friday, Aug. 24. The Science Center will transform into a mad scientist’s laboratory for this premier adult fundraiser to benefit Sci-Quest, Hands-on Science Center. Guests will enjoy an electrifying evening with delicious food from Cyn Shea’s Catering, beer from Straight to Ale, live and silent auctions, live music from Toy Shop, and the presentation of the 2012 Quest for Excellence Awards.
Throughout the evening, guests will have a chance to bid on some wonderful auction items including great trips, autographed sports memorabilia, science and technology collectables, fine jewelry, tickets to local entertainment, gift baskets, salon treatments, restaurant dinners, and original artwork by local artists. All proceeds from the evening will fund the many outstanding educational programs Sci-Quest offers both on-site in the Science Center and throughout the Tennessee Valley Region with the Traveling Science Outreach Program. Sci-Quest is a nonprofit organization.
The night will also offer live music from the band Toy Shop whose music combines elements if rock, jam, and lyrical pop. The band’s live shows are energetic and infectious, showcasing the quartet’s musical talent, driving grooves, and vocal harmony.
“The Mad Scientist Ball is our major fundraising event of the year to support the many activities we offer at the Center,” Cyndy Morgan, director of Sci-Quest said. “If you and your family enjoy spending time exploring our exhibits or participating in the education programs, please support us by attending this unique event.”
A highlight of the annual Mad Scientist Ball is the Quest for Excellence awards, given during the Ball. These community awards are given to local professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers. This year’s awards will be given to professionals with achievements in technology in four categories: industry, government, academia and education, plus a Director’s Choice award.
“We are proud to be able to honor these men and women at such a wonderful event. It is a great way to recognize the great work they are doing for our community and our nation,” said Morgan.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and guests are encouraged to don their lab coats or casual attire. Tickets are on sale now for $50 per person. To order tickets, call 256-837-0606 or visit www.sci-quest.org For more information about the Mad Scientists Ball and Sci-Quest, visit www.sci-quest.org.
