Sing and Sign Event: Laissez la bon temps rouler

Music, romance, New Orleans, and local talent – Do I have your attention yet?  A friendship found in their kid’s Kindergarten class has bloomed into a collaboration between a singer/songwriter and a novelist.

And you can learn all about their new project at the Huntsville Library on January 26th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Kimberly Lang is a bestselling author with two books that will be released in the KISS collection, a new line of Harlequin books that is hoping to be a hit with women in their 20’s and 30’s.

Cristina Lynn is a Country music artist who is releasing a brand new CD with five original songs at the beginning of February.

The beauty of those two sentences is that they go together like peanut butter and jelly!  Lang’s new books feature lyrics from Lynn’s songs.  And Lynn was inspired by Lang’s book and wrote a new song for the CD.

It’s a collaboration that both women will be talking about in an upcoming event they are calling “Sing and Sign.”

Both women are mothers and had children in the same classroom.  They became friends and stayed in touch as each of their careers started blooming. In 2012, they decided to try something a little new and put their unique storytelling abilities together for an experience that fans can see and hear!

They are each excited to see where this journey takes them and get a feel on how fans like the teamwork. They had a blast working together.  They actually have similar stories and have bonded over having jobs that are a little bit out of the box.

They talked about how they were going along through life saying, “One day I will…” and the moment they made the decision to start making their dreams a reality felt scary and exciting at the same time.

They each had a tremendous support system within their families that gave them the courage to take the leap of faith and become a full time musician and writer.  They each talked about the learning curve and the first thing you do is labor of love.

Another thing they each had stories about was putting work out into the world and having people judge that work.  Lynn said that people question whatshe does for a living as a country music artist.  Lang said that when people find out she writes romantic novels she gets a varied reaction.  Both women said that while rejection is tough, after some time you get a thicker skin it starts not to hurt as much. Each lady said that giving people that power over you and letting the negative in only hurts the creative process and person.

Lynn grew up singing in church. She was inspired by country artists who were able to tell a compelling story in just three verses, a chorus, and a bridge.  Her newest CD, “Sinners and Saints”, will release on February 3rd and she will be singing a few of her songs at the “Sing and Sign” events.

Lang grew up reading romance novels in her teens and fell in love with their happy endings.  Before becoming a full time writer, she taught English at UAH and Calhoun Community College. She sold her first book in 2008 and calls herself a “pantser” when it comes to writing.  She flies by the seat of her pants and gets inspired by situations or characters.  She is a member of the Romance Writers of America and believes that the romance genre is the ultimate optimistic escapist literature.

Get a behind the scenes look at how these two women work in each of their professions and how they worked when they were in cahoots! Just head over the the Huntsville Library on Saturday, and if you are able, bring a canned item to donate to the Food Bank. When you help others, you can't help helping yourself. You will love getting to know these two talented ladies!
