Bring local restaurants to your door with GrubSouth | Business
“So, what you want to eat?” “I don’t know. What do you want?” “Anything that I don’t have to cook.” “Order pizza again?”
I can’t tell you how many time that has gone on in my household. Or maybe you are one of those people (like me) who has to grab a quick lunch at work because there is always so much to do. I never feel like I have time to get anything besides fast food because it takes too long. By the time you drive to the restaurant, you park, find a seat, order the food, get the food, eat the food, pay the bill, drive back to work -- you have to catch up on everything you missed and feel behind for the rest of the day.
If this sounds familiar, I know your pain. However I have found an answer! A newly formed company called GrubSouth is in Huntsville and will bring the restaurants to you.
I sat down at Sandwich Farm with GrubSouth owners Katie Herron and Marge Loveday. You may know these two ladies from their band, Loveday. About six months ago, they started the company GrubSouth to bring local quality restaurants to the front door of Huntsville residents.
The concept is simple, go online or call, order your food, pay for your food and around 45 minutes later a driver shows up with your hot or cold meal. Katie and Marge decided that they wanted to work smart, not hard. With mentoring from a company in South Carolina, they set out to find local restaurants to join them on their journey. The first restaurant that took a chance on the business was Granville’s BBQ. From there they pounded the pavement to add to their list and now have more than 15 restaurants all over Huntsville with more coming on board each month.
Now I am a picky eater -always have been, always will be. So it scares me when I order something online and it may not come the right way. I can tell you with confidence that the times I have ordered from different restaurants with GrubSouth has been a great experience. Katie and Marge anticipated people like me. They created a little button that says customize where you detail what you want/don’t want. Genius!
One of the other questions I had when I ordered was how do I know that my sandwich from The Eaves is going to be hot and not warm by the time it gets to me? Again Marge and Katie have a system in place to make sure you get your food hot. When you first visit the site, you put in your zip code. This eliminates any restaurants that can’t realistically give you fresh food.
Also, they don’t place your order right away. Usually they wait until the driver is about 10 minutes away. How do they know? GPS tracking plus all the drivers have a smart phone and use a texting system to let the owners know they are on the way to the restaurant, have the food, delivering the food, and on the way back. GrubSouth even has hot and cold bags that keep the food the right temperature.
Katie and Marge know that this is a win/win for the restaurants and the customer. They are expanding more everyday and keep making tweaks to the site. They have an app for the Iphone and are working on getting one for Android phones. They can even go onto Redstone Arsenal. So the next time you want something more than fast food or don’t want to cook, give GrubSouth a try.
