Alert: Microsoft is not making calls to fix computers

The North Alabama Better Business Bureau has issued a warning about calls from people posing as Microsoft employees.

The caller claims to a representative of Microsoft or the Windows Service Center. The caller then claims they have discovered errors on the person's computer.

The BBB says the caller will then instruct the victim to fix the errors by a series of commands. This gives the caller remote access to the computer. Then the caller is able to install malicious software. The caller may also ask for credit card information to bill the victim for repair services.

If you receive this type of call and allow access to the caller, immediately run anti-malware and anti-virus programs. If you have given out credit card information, contact the financial institution as well.
