Beginning Farmers and Ranchers Workshop

Wanting to grow your own?

Well, if you're wanting to start your own backyard garden or have been in farming for the last five years and want to learn marketing strategies or ways to sell your produce, Alabama A&M is the place to be on July 18th and 19th.

STARTING A FARM is a beginners workshop for those who would like to learn the basic steps in production, financing and marketing. If you don't know where to start or like to find out more about how and where to sell your produce the workshop can give you the guidance you need.

Registration is required. There is no charge for the two day session which will be held at A&M's James L. Dawson Building. For more information you can call the Small Farms Research Center at 256-372-4970

The University of Alabama in Huntsville will celebrate Earth Week 2012.

Earth Week is a campus-wide event dedicated to sustaining the environment. 

The event will last from April 18-21.

The event’s goal is to educate students and the public about preserving our planet through recycling, water conservation, energy and climate control.

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Green Living Expo will be April 19

The theme this year is “Living green from the inside out,” and the featured guests are award winning dieticians from HEBNI Nutrition Consultants, Inc. (HNC) of Orlando.

The Green Living Expo is designed to raise awareness about environmental issues and help consumers and organizations become better stewards of natural resources.  Participants will obtain information on “green” products and services, and will also enjoy a free lunch and refreshments, live entertainment, a chance to win door prizes, and an opportunity to participate in food demonstrations from top chefs and nutritionists in the Southeast.

The event will be from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Alabama A&M University’s Agribition Center. A campus bus will run every 30 minutes to and from the J. F. Drake Memorial Learning Resource Center to the Agribition Center.;

City of Huntsville sponsors Earth Day clean up

The City of Huntsville will sponsor a citywide cleanup fpr Earth Day.

Huntsville's Citywide Great American Cleanup and Beautification Day will be April 13.

Volunteers will get free Glad trash bags, a free tree while supplies last, a hot dog or hamburger and water.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall.

So your jack-o-lantern has gone from spooky to sad, there's candy all over the house, and you have no idea what to do with that Halloween costume.  Folks, you're experiencing a Halloween hangover.  But have no fear, I'm about to lift your spirits with a few post Halloween-fixes that are easy and green.

Donate them to thrift stores or Goodwill stores.

Donate them to school or community theater departments.

Store them away and throw a costume swap party next fall.
