Madison County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) To Conduct Earthquake Exercise

On Thursday, October 21, the Madison County, Alabama Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) will conduct a training exercise in response to a simulated major earthquake associated with the East Appalachian Seismic Zone. The exercise will occur at 10:00 AM on Thursday October 21, at the Public Service Building at 320 Fountain Circle in Huntsville.

The Huntsville-Madison County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is responsible for supporting the Madison County VOAD. This important exercise will allow the non-profit and faith-based disaster response community to practice strategies for collaboration before a real disaster occurs. EMA staff is involved in promoting, facilitating and evaluating the exercise.

Alabama Department of Public Health issues 2010 Fish Consumption Advisories

The Alabama Department of Public Health has issued warnings concerning fish from some North Alabama Waterways.

Scientists are concerned about mercury levels and other contaminants in fish from waters in several counties including waterways in Lawrence, Jackson, Limesone, Madison and Franklin Counties.

Donation being Made for The Veterans Memorial

The Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial Foundation Board of Directors will receive a check from the the Redstone Sergeant Majors Association Thursday, September 30 at 11:00am in the Big Spring Partners office complex. Lee Hoekenschnieder will represent the Veterans Memorial Board at the presentation.  The contribution will continue to provide funds to build the Veterans Memorial in downtown Huntsville.  The groundbreaking for the Memorial is scheduled for December 7, 2010.

Downtown Dog Park closed Tuesday (Oct. 5th) morning/afternoon

The City of Huntsville’s downtown Dog Park will be closed to the public on Tuesday, October 5th from sunrise until 1:00 pm for herbicide maintenance. Signs will be placed at the park for public notice.
