Out-of-state firm to perform Walmart traffic study | News
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Huntsville city leaders decided to move
forward with another traffic study at the site of a proposed Walmart.
Neighbors near the location at Drake Avenue
and Memorial Parkway expressed concerns about the major retailer building in
the area. The firm selected by the neighbors is based out of California, and it
will take several weeks for the company to become licensed in Alabama.
Neighbors said it is important to get a firm
with no Alabama ties that cannot be swayed by politics. City leaders said if
everyone works together, the store will be a good addition to the community.
"We need Walmart, the neighborhood and the
city to all work together. Let's get this traffic study done as soon as
possible. Find out what the results are. Then we're ready to see where we go
from there," said City Councilman Bill Kling.
There is one hitch to the plan: Walmart could
get their permit before the city receives the results of the traffic study. If
that happens, city leaders said there is nothing they can legally do to prevent
Walmart from breaking ground.
