Police organization president supports officers' reinstatement
News

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- For the first time the public is able to see what earned a Huntsville Police officer, a 30 day suspension.

The department originally fired Officer Brett Russell, but the city council overturned that decision Thursday night.

It's the second officer in less than a month the council has voted to reinstate after the department fired him.

Bill Davis, president of Huntsville Fraternal Order of Police, had a chance to review the tape that landed Russell in trouble.

Davis said he wouldn't be surprised if there's a little tension between both sides right now, but he also knows the correct decisions were made for both officers.

Davis said he's stayed in contact with Russell and Officer Phillip Lee, the other officer the council decided to bring back, and that he passed along some advice.

"My advice to both officers last night was go back to work, be model police officers, do everything you're supposed to do, if you have any doubt, be sure to contact a supervisor before you take further action," said Davis.

It is unknown at this time whether both officers will go back out on the streets when they come back or if they'll have desk jobs.
