HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Local businesses in the Tennessee Valley want to spread awareness for breast cancer.
October is breast cancer awareness month, and organizations teamed up with Huntsville Hospital Foundation for the second annual "Lite it Up" campaign.
This year's challenge was to sell 10,000 pink light bulbs. The goal is to light up the Tennessee Valley in pink.
They want people to buy a pink light bulb for their porch light or business.
All the proceeds go to help the hospital purchase early breast cancer detection machines.
"You can not only help honor women who are battling cancer right now, you can help honor women who are survivors of breast cancer," said Anna Manning with the Huntsville Hospital. "You can help patients that don't even know they have breast cancer yet because you are helping providing equipment to detect early detection."
Bulbs can be purchased at Huntsville Hospital and Madison Hospital in the gift shop for $5.
"Pink Week" runs from October 1 through the 5.
