HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- A Valley veteran received the Congressional Gold Medal at a special ceremony in Huntsville Saturday.

84-year-old Corporal Raymond Williams served as a marine in World War II.

Friends, family and local veterans in the community held a ceremony for Williams in South Huntsville.

He said he's happy dozens of people were able to help him celebrate his award.

"I'm feeling fine. I was surprised to see so many people come here and celebrate this moment with me. I didn't think I would ever see a medal of honor," said Williams.

Williams is originally from New Orleans, but he currently lives in Harvest.
