Protestors not happy with superintendent's response to bullying | News

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Protestors are firing back at Huntsville City Schools a day after the Superintendent said statistics don't back their claims of violence.

Several protestors said after Thursday night's meeting and the Superintendent's comments, they're more fired up than ever.

Dr. Casey Wardynski addressed the situation at the board meeting.

"It's when children stray from where they are supposed to be that we begin having trouble," he told the crowd. "Well, we do a lot to prevent that."

The crowd tried to question Wardynski, but they were hushed as he continued his comments.

A group that spoke on behalf of a Butler High School student who was attacked in a bathroom said they felt that comment was directed at the victim. They said Wardynski isn't blaming the attackers, but the victim who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The advocate group doesn't have any plans of stopping the protests or alerting the community about what's happening inside the school system.

"The way they are choosing to deal with this is the same way people discredit rape victims," said victim advocate James Robinson. "They are attempting to discredit these students and it's not going to happen."

Dr. Wardynski responded to the allegations made against the district at Thursday night's school board meeting.

"I work in a world of evidence and data. I have people that say things all the time," he said. "I've heard people tell me that this case or that case took place a week before or a week after because they read Facebook and they listen to rumors. I don't do that."

Protestors aren't happy with the school system's response and they plan on continuing their fight.
