Madison County law enforcement collect prescription drugs | News
MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- Madison County law enforcement collected hundreds of prescription pills Saturday during a drug take back day.
Residents dropped off unwanted or expired prescription drugs for the Drug Take Back Initiative.
The Huntsville and Madison police departments and the sheriff's department participated in the take back.
Authorities said one reason they do the take back is to prevent prescription drug abuse in the home.
"A lot of prescription drug abuse originates from medications in the home. This gives people the opportunity to get those medications out of their home if they're unused, unwanted," said Huntsville Police Chief Lewis Morris.
Huntsville Police collected 400 pounds; Madison Police collected 286 pounds and Madison County Sheriff's Department collected 120 pounds.
