HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- A Huntsville park is getting a major makeover.
City leaders unveiled their master plan of improvements to John Hunt Park on Airport Road.
The project allows for new and updated activity centers, walking trails, bike paths, playgrounds and park areas.
It also includes facilities for large-scale sporting events.
Highlights of the plan include splash pads for the kids, improvements to the golf course, and a multi-purpose indoor athletic facility.
However, there are many other ideas on the list.
"We have had a plan on John Hunt Park since 1992. We have now updated the plan to better reflect what the city needs in 2012. It is going to become a centerpiece of the city and a more central park for Huntsville," said Mayor Tommy Battle at Wednesday's news conference.
The new plan has been in the works for about a year.
It has been presented to the planning commission, and will be up for final approval during a public hearing on November 20th.
