Thousands turn out for Liz Hurley Ribbon Run

6,000 runners signed up for the race.

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- The Liz Hurley Ribbon Run kicked off bright and early Saturday morning. 

Thousands signed up and turned out for the 9th annual Ribbon Run. A record 6,000 runners signed up for the race.

The Men's 5K started at 7:30 a.m. The women's 5K started at 9 a.m. and the Survivor's Walk started at 10 a.m.

The overall winner of the men's 5K, for the third year in a row, was Josh Whitehead with a time of 15:05.  Candace Jacobs, also the reigning champ, won the women's 5K with a time of 18:22. 

The proceeds from the event go to provide enhancements for mammography machines at the Huntsville Hospital Breast Center, and a digital breast mammography machine at the Breast Center's new satellite location on the Madison Hospital campus.
