They hope to keep winter heating bills low and help elderly neighbors fight off the cold winter weather.

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- As the temperatures drop and winter approaches, a local organization is pitching in to make sure senior citizens stay warm.

This weekend, CASA of Madison County will repair more than 130 homes for their annual Winterization Project.

Teams of volunteers will place plastic on windows, install storm doors, and insulate pipes, along with other home winterizing duties for seniors in Huntsville and Madison County.

They hope to keep winter heating bills low and help elderly neighbors fight off the cold winter weather.

"So the Weatherization Project keeps them comfortable in their homes and protected from the weather. Of course, in the summer they do air-conditioners and so forth like that, but in the winter we try to weatherize their homes so they can be as warm as they can possibly be," said Molly Kitchens with CASA.
