HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)-
A former Huntsville City Schools teacher is suing to get her job back. Shirley Taylor claims she did not receive notification of her termination hearing.
The lawsuit names Superintendent Dr. Casey Wardynski and Board of Education Members Topper Birney, David Blair, Laurie McCaulley, Alta Morrison and Jennie Robinson as defendants.
The lawsuit states Taylor never received the pre-termination letter sent by certified mail. Taylor also claims the board never checked to confirm the certified letter was delivered.
Taylor was terminated March 1. The lawsuit states that on March 2, Taylor was hand delivered her termination notice at the school where she taught.
Taylor is asking to be reinstated as a teacher, to receive back pay, and to have her employment benefits adjusted as though she was not terminated.
We are working to get a response from Huntsville City Schools.
