Huntsville hosts wounded warriors for Heroes Week | News

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Army National Guard Specialist Chad Traffansted finally received a warm welcome home after serving for the past year in Afghanistan.

While serving on the front lines, Traffansted hurt his leg.

When his platoon returned home to the Tennessee Valley, he was forced to stay behind because of his injuries.

Wednesday, dozens greeted him and more than 30 other wounded warriors at the airport for Heroes Week in Huntsville.

Several veterans groups, military representatives, girl scout troops and school classes were there cheering them on, holding signs and waving American flags.

"It brought tears to my eyes when I came in and saw all of the support. You get that sometimes, but when you see a massive amount of people waiting on you and saying they are glad you are home, a soldier needs that when they first get back," said Traffansted.

This is the 6th annual Heroes Week put on by the Semper Fi Community Task Force.

With Veteran's Day just around the corner, the soldiers will spend the week in Huntsville participating in special activities sponsored by local military organizations.
