HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Huntsville emergency responded to a fatal fire on 1104 Governors Drive.

Crews received a call for a structure fire just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters reported smoke showing from the building. Officials said the fire started in the back of the home.

When crews cleared the home, they found a 72-year-old Melba Davis deceased inside.

Officials said her body was not burned, and the cause of death was either smoke inhalation or health related.

Davis did have smoke detectors in the home, but firefighters found them melted after the fire broke out.

Davis is the only one who lived in the home, and neighbors are saddened they couldn't help her.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
