HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- It's the second school of its kind in the state, and only one of eight in the Country.
The Rise School in Huntsville will open its doors early next year. It's for all children regardless of their abilities. Many parents with children with disabilities will often tell of the difficulties of finding programs, especially pre-schools that have the expertise to deal with special needs children.
"We knew prenatal that Jonathan, our son, would have Down syndrome, so we were prepared for that. What we were not prepared for was that when we went to enroll him into pre-school, he was turned away. We were upset, we were angry," said Jerry Lee.
He and his wife discovered a program in Tuscaloosa called the Rise School, and they saw a huge impact in their sons development.
"They have a unique program that is for all children, and so we decided if we can create a pre-school where all children can learn side by side, regardless of disability or not, then what a huge asset that will be to Huntsville," he explained.
The Rise School of Huntsville will open its doors January 9th.
