A&M trustees approve flat rate tuition | News

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- The Alabama A&M Board of Trustees unanimously approved a
flat-rate tuition for undergraduate students.

The change will charge full-time students for a 15-hour
course load regardless of whether they're taking 12 or 18 credit hours.

University President Andrew Hugine says the reasoning behind
the proposal is to encourage students to take the maximum amount of credit
hours per semester. Business and finance Director Ralph Johnson says students
need to take an average of 15 credit hours per semester to graduate within four
years.

"I think it's specifically designed for those
who want to get out in three or four years, and don't want to stay five, six,
seven years and get caught up in the curriculum," said A&M student
Christopher Jackson. "I think honestly it's a good thing, especially for people
like me. I want to get out. I don't want to stay in college all my life."

The change will take effect fall of 2013.
