It’s that time of the year again, when parents are preparing for the upcoming school year.

We all know that being a parent is a tough job, especially when it comes to school shopping.

Huntsville City school systems fail to make AYP

MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) - The government determines annually which schools in Alabama are making adequate yearly progress, or AYP. The results for 2010-11 are now in.

About 72 percent of Alabama's schools made AYP, which means those schools met every one of their stated goals.

Blue Cards required for school entry

The Madison County Health Department will be holding Special Immunization Clinics for all school age children who need an updated “Blue Card” for school entry. This will include, but is not limited to, all children entering daycare or kindergarten/1st grade, all children between the ages of 11 - 14 and all children entering 6th grade who are 10 and over.

Do you or someone you know need to prepare for your GED? Calhoun Community College’s Adult Education Department currently offers classes in Ardmore, Athens, Decatur, Hartselle, New Hope, Hazel Green, and Huntsville, as well as on Calhoun’s Decatur and Huntsville campuses.

Donate school supplies to the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library

As you prepare your kids to go back to school, you'll likely do some school supplies shopping. While you're there, consider donating some extra supplies for families in some of the hardest hit areas of rural Alabama.
