Roads closed for utility work

Traffic alert for Huntsville drivers - starting Saturday streets in the medical district will be closed for utility work.

Saint Clair Avenue will be closed from Fackler to Madison Street. Gallatin Street will also be closed from Lowe Avenue to Saint Clair Avenue. The roads are scheduled to reopen on Monday. Copyright 2013 WAFF. All rights reserved.

St. Clair Ave. to close for utility work

Huntsville Utilities will be closing St. Clair Avenue Friday and Saturday for utility work.

St. Clair Avenue between Pelham Avenue and Facklet Street in Medical District will be closed so workers can install underground utility lines.

The closure will be from 5 a.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The public will still have access to Big Spring Manor from the intersection of Pelham Avenue and St. Clair Avenue.

DUI checkpoints announced

The Huntsville Police Department announced a list of DUI checkpoints which will be enforced through New Year’s Eve.

Officials said they will be proactive in enforcing Alabama DUI laws over the holiday weekend.

DUI checkpoints will be located at University Drive at Jordan Lane, US 72 East between Epworth and Moore’s Mill Road, Oakwood Avenue and Pulaski Pike, North Memorial Parkway at Sparkman Drive, Jordan Lane at Sparkman Drive, South Memorial Parkway at Meadowbrook Drive and Airport Road and Whitesburg Drive.

Construction scheduled for Research Park and Jordan

Construction scheduled for Research Park and Jordan

Crews will begin construction on Research Park starting Monday.

The work will take place at the intersection of Jordan Lane and Research Park at 7 p.m. Monday and will conclude at 5 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.

Drivers going north on Jordan Lane will be detoured east on Research Park.

Drivers going south on Jordan Lane will be detoured west on Research Park.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Resurfacing planned for Interstate 565

Resurfacing planned for Interstate 565

Lane closures are planned on Interstate 565 November 3-4 from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Crews will be resurfacing the road between mile markers 5 and 7 near County Line Road.

There will be at least one lane open to traffic in both directions. The speed limit will drop to 50 mph.

Alabama Department of Transportation officials suggest drivers use alternate routes during this work.

Electric car drivers will gather together Sunday for National Plug In Day.

The drivers are gathering to highlight the fun, clean-air benefits and cost-savings of owning an electric car.

The event will be held at the Redstone Energy Demonstration park. There will be a number of electric cars for attendees to test drive. There will also be tours of the solar facility.

The event is being held across the country.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Police advise motorists to use caution in school zones

Police advise motorists to use caution in school zones

Huntsville police advised commuters that school zones will be strictly enforced starting August 20.

Police said classes will resume Monday, and all posted speed limits and traffic laws will be strictly enforced.

Motorists should allow for extra time in school zones.

Officials also said motorists should be aware of Public Safety Aides and should consider every child walking as a caution sign.
