As anticipated by the SPC’s “Slight” severe weather risk today, we had a few isolated accounts of strong to severe weather. The most notable was in Limestone County.  Here are the storm reports as of 7:00pm Friday evening.

 

The first Tornado Warning came around 2pm when a small supercell storm quickly starting rotating.

The weather stays dry again today with sunshine and highs in the mid 80s.  We're tracking an upper level storm system that is bringing clouds and rain to parts of Texas and Oklahoma this morning.  Here's the satellite and radar view at 9am.

Partly cloudy and dry tonight with a south wind and lows around 62 degrees.  Showers and thunderstorms will begin to move into NW Alabama around sunrise.  

The line will be capable of strong gusty winds and heavy rain.  The line will be weakening as it tracks from west to east and might not make it completely across the Valley before falling apart before the Noon hour.

They sky will clear overnight and lows will be around 60 degrees.

Here is a forecast image showing the forecast change in Barometric Pressure as we track the next storm system.  Pressure will be falling Thursday into Saturday with a rapid rise in pressure Sunday into Monday behind the weekend cold front as the cooler air mass moves in.

It hasn't felt at all like May in the last few days and it's in fact been a record setting stretch of cool weather.  Some of you may have even had to turn the heat back on for a little bit (I toughed it out, even though it got as cool as 63 in the house!).

By Jeff CastleRain continues to come down today, but should begin to wrap tonight into tomorrow.  Rain totals over the weekend through early this morning have been impressive ranging from around 1.5" on the low end to more than 4" in the high end.  The heaviest rains have fallen across Madison, Marshall and Dekalb counties. [Read more...]

Flood Watches are in effect across north Alabama and southern Tennessee this weekend.  2" to as much as 4" of rain may fall over the weekend as a cold front and upper level low pressure system pass through the area.  The ground is already very wet from recent rainfall and many streams and creeks are running high.  It won't take much additional rain to cause flooding issues.
